Fontainbleau developer, Ben Novack, hired Mathes to build a 14-story spite wall to block the south sunlight from his former partner's hotel, Eden Roc. The only windows facing the Eden Roc were in Novack's suite so he could view his diss.

In 2008, Eden Roc finally built a 21-story tower to block the view of the blank wall.
