Botanic Gardens Railway Station was a railway station in Glasgow, Scotland that was under the Botanic Gardens. The station was part of the Glasgow Central Line and was re-opened as part of the Caledonian Railway. The station closed (the first time) due to wartime enconomy. The station closed the 2nd time due to low passenger services.
The station opened 10th August 1896, closed 1st January 1917. The station re-opened 1st June 1919 and closed once again 2nd February 1939. The railway was still active and trains passed the closed station. The railway offically closed 5th October 1964.
Today the station is hidden underground and is overgrown, but can only be entered if you go through the old tunnel portals (both overgrown). The station platforms are still there, but as said before overgrown. The staircases leading up to the station building have been bricked. The station building was destroyed by a fire in 1970 and has since been demolished. Both tunnel portals have been blocked as the station area is too dangerous and has a chance of crumbling. Today the sight is explored by urban explorers.
