The temple is rated a national AAAA tourist attraction approved by the China National Tourism Administration. It was originally during the Northern Song Dynasty c.1000 years ago.

The temple complex features intricate wooden carvings, colourful roof tiles and beautiful courtyards. Two interesting features are the Drunkard's Corridor (醉翁廊) with its ancient calligraphy and paintings, and the statue of Bedi (God of the North) in the main hall. Bedi was believed to protect the city of Foshan.
