Gortyn is an archaeological site on the island of Crete in modern-day Greece. Gortyn was an ancient Roman settlement. It was the Roman capital of Creta et Cyrenaica.

Gortyn was originally a Greek city but became allied with the Romans in 68 BC and therefore avoided destruction like many other Greek cities when the Romans invaded Greece under the command of Quintus Caecilius Metellus Creticus.
