In this area, John Chapman, AKA Johnny Appleseed, took it upon himself to travel the countryside, spreading the Gospel and planting orchard after orchard of apple trees.
Chapman was laid to rest here. His grave is located in Johnny Appleseed Park. Each September, people come from all over to relive the pioneer days of the early 19th century at the Johnny Appleseed Festival.
