This is the site of the former Georgia Mental Health Institute which operated from 1965 to 1997 and closed due to rising costs. The area was bought by Emory University for $2.9 million and remains their property.

The site was used for filming scenes for the Hawkins National Laboratory in the Netflix series "Stranger Things"
