Historic Oakwood Cemetery was founded in 1869 near the North Carolina State Capitol in the city's Historic Oakwood neighborhood. It contains 2special areas within its 102 ac, the Confederate Cemetery, located on the original 2.5 ac, and the Hebrew Cemetery, both given for that purpose by Henry Mordecai in 1867.

Added to NRHP on 6/25/1974.
