(August Heinrich) Hoffmann von Fallersleben (2. April 1798 – 19. January 1874) was a German poet.

His most famous work worldwide is the text to the German National Anthem, "Das Lied der Deutchen). Today, because of WW2, only verse 3 is sung. The first two verses are forbiddeb by German law. The melody was composed by Joseph Haydn.
