The Joe River Chickee is one of several backcountry shelters in the Everglades National Park that are accessible only by boat/kayak/canoe. The chickees offer a secluded base to enjoy the backcountry areas of the park, complete with a port-a-potty.

Chickee means "house" in the Creek and Mikasuki languages spoken by the Seminoles and Miccosukees.
