John Robert Wooden (October 14, 1910 – June 4, 2010) was an American basketball coach at UCLA who won 10 national championships including seven in a row in a 12 year period. Wooden is considered one of the most revered coaches in sports. His simple inspirational messages along with his "Pyramid of Success" were legendary.

Wooden coached some of college basketball's best teams, teams that won 47 and 88 games in a row. Players he coached: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Lew Alcindor at UCLA), Bill Walton, Gail Goodrich and Sidney Wicks.
