On Thursday 4th April 2024 a member of the public discovered what was later found to be human remains in the Kersal Wetlands, Salford, Greater Manchester.
Salford City Council created the Kersal Wetlands as part of a flood protection scheme in the Kersal area of the City. on the site of the former Manchester Racecourse
The reserve is rich in biodiversity with many different species of flora and fauna and offers many recreational opportunities with cycle paths, dog walks and 10 hectares of wildflower habitat.
