The L.I.E.R. is specialized in evaluating road safety equipment, a field to which they dedicate all of their experimental activities. Owing to its independence and by avoiding all conflicts of interest, the L.I.E.R. enjoys a privileged relationship with its clients looking to obtain certification of their products, particularly scope of future CE marking procedures for road restraint systems as per European standard EN 1317.
Each year, more than 100 impact tests involving passenger vehicles, buses and heavy vehicles up to 38 tonnes, are conducted at our site.
The test tracks are situated on a 30 hectare site adjacent to Lyon Saint-Exupéry international airport, approximately 25 kilometres east of Lyon, France. These facilities can be easily accessed owing to its proximity to the airport, TGV high-speed railway station and nearby motorway network. The geographical location of the site puts L.I.E.R. at the hub of a major European transport network.
The L.I.E.R.'s test facilities consist of 7 primary test zones dedicated to full-scale impact testing.
Four zones are dedicated to safety barrier impact testing. Impacts can be performed on either the right or left side of the vehicle, against all categories of barriers.
Furthermore, according to the client's requirements, devices can be installed in stabilized soil, asphalt or on concrete beam level with the road surface or raised to simulate a bridge.
Two test zones are dedicated to frontal impact tests against crash cushions and one zone is used to evaluate protective devices for motorcyclists.
