AKA Lac Huron (French)
Gichi-aazhoogami-gichigami /Naadowewi-gichigami (Ojibwe)
This is one of the 5 Great Lakes of North America. It's the easterly portion of Lake Michigan–Huron, with the same surface elevation as Lake Michigan, to which it's connected by the 8 km, 20-fathom-deep (37 m) Straits of Mackinac. It's shared on the N and E by the Canadian province of Ontario and on the S and W by the U.S. state of Michigan. The name of the lake is from early French explorers, who named it for the Huron people of the region.
