Undergraduate flight training is the primary mission of this Air Force Base on the US/Mexican border, with a 4,100 acre main base, and a new 402 acre auxiliary airfield near Spofford, 22 miles to the southeast. Laughlin once served as a U2 spyplane base, and has trained around 10,000 Air Force pilots since 1962. The base employs 3,100 people.
