Bolton’s Market Cross on Churchgate outside The Swan Pub and close to Parish Church and is the Churchgate Conservation Area.
The Cross seen today was commissioned by George Harwood who was the local Member of Parliament, George Harwood, and unveiled 29th November 1909
The gilt bronze cross sit atop a tall square tapering column on a stepped circular base.
In 1651 James Stanley, the Earl of Derby was executed close to the site of the current cross.
