Martin Luther King lived here from 1954 to 1960 when he was a young pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church.

During the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955/56 a bomb exploded on the front porch of King’s residence, causing damage to the home and blowing out the windows. His family was unharmed.

The house, the church's former parsonage, is now the Dexter Parsonage Museum.
