Wiley, the daughter of civil rights leader George Wiley, was born in Syracuse, NY and raised in Washington, DC. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Dartmouth College and a Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School in New York.
After law school, Wiley worked for many organizations, including the ACLU and NAACP, once having been a candidate for the president of the latter. After two and a half years serving as counsel to Mayor de Blasio, she herself ran for Mayor of New York City in 2021.
