Misurina rink

Misurina rink

Cortina, Italy (IT)
The Misurina rink (La pista di Misurina) was the location of the speed skating events. This was the last time that speed skating at the Olympics was held on natural ice. It was the farthest venue from Cortina at 13 km (9 miles). The rink was established at the northern end of the lake with a mountain backdrop. Stands were constructed to accommodate 8,500 people. Despite the event being held outdoors on lake ice, one world record was broken and another was tied during the competition
