Mosque Maryam

Mosque Maryam

Chicago, Illinois (IL), US
Mosque Maryam (Temple #2) is a large mosque in Chicago, Illinois, United States and the headquarters of the Nation of Islam. It is located at 7351 South Stony Island Avenue in the South Shore neighborhood.[1] Louis Farrakhan's headquarters are located on these premises. Originally the Greek Orthodox church of St.s Constantine and Helena, it was purchased in 1972 by Elijah Muhammad. The mosque was then repurchased by Louis Farrakhan 17 years later, in 1988. It was named after Mary, the mother of Jesus ("Maryam" is Arabic for Mary). The main Mosque Maryam room is unusual for an American mosque, since it contained pews later replaced with seats.
