He purchased the home from Erwin Tupper, who was born on August 23, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. After graduating from Manual Arts High School, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 through 1946. He then attended USC, graduating in 1951 with a BS in Civil Engineering. While at USC, he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, and lettered in gymnastics from 1948-1950, becoming the 1949 Pacific Coast Conference #1 all-around champion. Upon graduation, he married Helen Daxer at St. Joseph's Church in Los Angeles. He entered the family business, Atlas Ornamental Iron Works, leading the company for 43 years until his son, Chris, assumed the leadership of the company. He served as board member and later, as president of the Steel Fabricators Association for the years 1975 and 1978. He received the Association's Order of the Orchid in 1979. A member of the USC Associates and Cardinal & Gold, he loved USC football
