Nathan Mayer Rothschild Mansion

Nathan Mayer Rothschild Mansion

London, United Kingdom (GB)
Nathan Mayer Rothschild (1777–1836) was the founder of the English branch of the family, and the son of Mayer Amschel Rothschild, who founded the Rothschild banking dynasty. He purchased the Large Mansion and park shortly before he died in 1835, the family would also later buy the Small Mansion (on the right). In 1925, following the death of Nathan’s grandson Leopold de Rothschild, Leopold’s wife, Maria, and son Lionel, sold the 200 acre estate.

The large mansion is now Gunnersbury Park Museum — opened in 1929 — a showcase for local history and archaeology, costume and fine art.
