On Sunday 24th March 2024 at 12:43 UTC, Lacy YO6CFB, a radio amateur from Romania made contact with Steve IQ5QO/P, a radio amateur from Italy who was operating from the Natura 2000 - Alta val di merse (IFF-2013) area on the 20m amateur radio band. Steve made a total of 189 contacts while he was in the reserve.
Natura 2000 - Alta val di merse (IFF-2013), is a protected area of 9,490 hectares lying to the south of Florence in northern Italy. It was designated as a Special Area of Conservation (Habitats Directive) in 2016 and is part of the Natura 2000 network.
Natura 2000 aims to protect many of Europe's most vulnerable and threatened habitats and species. The Natura 2000 - Alta val di merse (IFF-2013) area protects 44 species and 23 different habitats.
