Neuschwanstein is a Romanesque Revival palace built by architect Eduard Riedel as a retreat for Ludwig II. Ludwig II was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. Today, it is a major tourist attraction with more than 1.3 million visitors each year.
