On November 2, 2014, high wire artist Nik Wallenda completed two tight rope walks at this location high above the "Windy City".

The first walk was a 15 degree uphill walk between the west Marina City tower and the Leo Burnett Building, crossing the Chicago River in the process. He was 588 feet (179 m) above the ground at the start of the stunt and climbed to 671 feet (204 m) at the end. This set the world record for steepest high wire walk between two buildings.

The second walk was performed blindfolded on a wire connecting the two Marina City towers. This set the record for the highest blindfolded high wire walk.

He performed the walks at night with temperatures in the mid-40's (7º C) and winds of 15 mph (24 km/h).

In recent years, Wallenda has also successfully walked across the Niagara Falls and the Grand Canyon.
