The Nissan 350Z was the replacement of the Nissan 300ZX, which stopped being sold in the U.S. market in 1996, and ended production in 2000. At first, its replacement was going to be a retro-styled 240Z, but its engine was seen as "underpowered" and the design being "too retro", which lead to a redesign being commissioned and resulting in the 350Z, which was released in 2002 as a 2003 model.
