Pamiri Botanical Gardens

The Pamiri Botanical Gardens are roughly 6km east of Khorugh the Capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region of Tajikistan in the Pamir Mountains.

The Gardens are laid out on terraces near the confluence of the rivers Gunt and Shahdara and cover an area of 624ha.

The gardens were established in 1940 by a group of scientists led by Professor Anatoly Gursky. The gardens are at 2320 meters asl and offer a unique opportunity to study plant life in this mountain environment.

Over the years trees, shrubs and plants have been collected from around the world and brought to the gardens, and it is estimated that there are now more than 4,000 plant species in its grounds.
