Peter Max is a pop and psychedelic painter.

Born Peter Max Finkelstein in Berlin in 1938, his family fled the Nazi movement, settling in Shanghai, before moving to Haifa, Israel, Paris, and then settling in Brooklyn, NY.

He began studying art in the 1950s, receiving commercial recognition in the 1960s with advertisements for 7-UP soft drink. He appeared on The Tonight Show in 1968. Max later designed a U.S. postage stamp to commemorate the 1974 World's Fair and a series of paintings fo the Statue of Liberty in 1976 which helped lead to the restoration of the statue with Lee Iacocca.

He has been commissioned to create works for the 1994 World Cup, the Grammy Awards, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Super Bowl. He designed a car for Dale Earnhardt. He has painted portraits of Taylor Swift to commemorate three of her albums and designed the cover photo for Aretha Franklin's album 'Through the Storm.

Max's primary home is in Manhattan.
