This US Postal Distribution Center, called the Van Nuys General Mail Facility (though located near Valencia) is the principal mail sorting facility for northern Los Angeles County, processing on average 6 million pieces of mail each day for the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley and Mojave Desert Region. 1,500 employees work 24 hours a day at nearly 2 miles of conveyors that move mail through the 750,000 square foot building.
Behind the processing plant, adjacent to the employee parking lot and vehicle maintence facilities, is a model mail carrier practice course complete with a railroad crossing, traffic lights, high curbs, and hard-to-reach mailboxes.
