The school was built ca. 1633 at the initiative of the priest in Fakse, Rasmus Svendsen, since he had long wished for a school in the town for ordinary people.

In 1730 the school was very dilapidated.
During rebuilding was built an annexe building (which was demolished in 1810) because the original school had become too small because of the city's "greatness and populous."
In 1790, it is stated that the school has been replaced by a larger school at Faxe church.
In 1977 the school was preserved and the building restored. The school stands today, 2007, blank.
