The Queen Mary is a retired British ocean liner which was launched in 1934. She was named after Mary of Teck, the consort of King George V. She held the record for speed for transatlantic travel from 1938 to 1952. During WWII she became a valuable troop transporter. By 1967 the ship was aging and was sold to the city of Long Beach to become a tourist attraction. She has been moored in Long Beach since her purchase and reopened in 1971.
