Shining Tor in the south Pennines is the highest hill in the historic county of Cheshire (now Cheshire East. The summit Shining Tor is at 559m (1,834 feet) above sea level.

The summit has the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group reference G/SP-004 and is one of sixteen SOTA summits in the south Pennines region.

At 12:50UTC on the 17th June 2023, Martin 2E0BIA/P, who was activating the summit for the SOTA group made contact with Phil GU4OBK/P, on the 40m amateur radio band, who was activating another summit for the Group (GU/GU-002 – Guernsey Airport). Martin made several other contacts while he was at the summit.
