Sigiriya, Sri Lanka (LK)
Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress that rises to 180 m (590 ft) high. According to the ancient Sri Lankan chronicle the Cūḷavaṃsa, the fort was created by King Kashyapa (AD 477–495) who made the rock his capital. After the king's death the location was abandoned. The Buddhist moved in and used it as a monastery until the 14th century.
