Joseph "Skinny Joey" Merlino is a mobster who is believed to be the boss of the Philadelphia Crime Family. Merlino's father was Chuckie Merlino, Underboss of the Scarfo Crime Family.
Merlino was convicted in 2001 of numerous RICO charges, including racketeering, illegal gambling, and extortion. He was sentenced to 14 years in prison and was released in 2011.
Merlino is currently under house arrest at this home while awaiting trial on new racketeering charges for which he faces 20 years in prison for a health care fraud scheme. This is following an August 2016 sting which federal prosecuters charged nearly four dozen reputed members of an east coast crime syndicate of various crimes including extortion, loansharking, casino-style gambling, sports gambling, credit card fraud and health care fraud.
