The Northrop SM-62 Snark was an early-model intercontinental range ground-launched cruise missile that could carry a W39 thermonuclear warhead. The Snark was deployed by the US from 1958 through 1961.

On May 27, 1959, Presque Isle Air Force Base, Maine, the only Snark missile base, received its first missile. On March 18, 1960 it went on alert status.

On June 25, 1961 the 702nd Wing was inactivated.
