Speedway City

Speedway City

Virginia, Australia (AU)
This 430 meter (0.267 mile) clay oval race track opened in 1979. It was created to replace Rowley Park, which was a victim of Adelaide's urban sprawl. The new track was named Speedway Park until being renamed Speedway City in 1996. Race events feature sprintcars, speedcars (midgets), stock cars, Formula 500 cars, and solos (motorcycles).

Each year from late December until February, the prestigious World Series Sprintcars series holds about a dozen events at several tracks in Australia. In addition to Australia's race teams, the WSS attracts some of America's best sprint car drivers to spend the winter racing Down Under. In 2014, Speedway City will hold the first race of the WSS season.
