St Brigid’s Holy Well (“Tobar Bride”)

St. Brigid’s Holy Well in County Kildare is one of over 3,000 holy wells or springs throughout the island of Ireland.

Like most of the other Holy Wells, this well which is now dedicated to St. Brigid, would have been considered an important site in pre-Christian times being associated with Celtic Gods and Goddesses.

The well is feed by an underground spring and in recent times is set in a small park which is maintained by the Brigidine Sisters.

There is a low stone wall around most of the well but there is a gap which allow visitors to collect the holy waters. Set on this wall is a small stone cross.

St. Brigid of Kildare is also known as Brigid of Ireland is the ‘mother saint’ or patroness saint of Ireland and one Ireland’s three national saints alongside St. Patrick and St. Columbia.
