Standing on a Frozen Lake

Sarek National Park, Sweden (SE)
Here on Street View in April 2019 an intrepid arctic explorer stands on the frozen waters of Lake Sijddojávrre (Sitojaure) in northern Sweden.

Lake Sijddojávrre stretches for 20km and meets Sarek and the Laponia World Heritage Area at its western end. When it is not frozen, the waters of the lake have a green hue from the mineral bearing glacial melt waters which feed the lake.

Although Lake Sijddojávrre appears to be a single lake it is actually three lakes linked by watercourses.

In the past, when reindeer herders moved their herds on their traditional migrations, the lake was surrounded in spring and autumn with campsites where the herders stayed on their journeys to and form the summer grazing lands further west.
