Steve McQueen (March 24, 1930 – November 7, 1980) was an Academy Award-nominated American movie actor, nicknamed "The King of Cool". His "anti-hero" persona, which he developed at the height of the Vietnam counterculture, made him one of the top box-office draws of the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen was combative with directors and producers; regardless, he was able to command large salaries and was in high demand.
McQueen purchased this estate in 1963 and sold it to conductor Zubin Mehta in 1974. The house was built in 1944 by architect Cliff May. It is located on a gated street called Oakmont Drive in the Brentwood neighbourhood.
