Stitch's Great Escape!

Stitch's Great Escape!

Magic Kingdom, Florida (FL), US
The entrance to the infamous "Stitch's Great Escape" theater-in-the-round attraction at the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland, based on the 2002 film "Lilo and Stitch". First opened on November 18, 2004, rumors have said the attraction had permanently closed after operating on a seasonal schedule since October 2, 2016, on January 6, 2018, but according to a Disney spokesperson, the attraction would be still considered "seasonal", but a reopening date has yet to be announced. Nevertheless, the audio-animatronic of Stitch, built by Imagineering, was one of its most complex creations for its size, having binaural sound, simulated laser cannons, and a mechanism that generates a chili-dog like smell, in which the irony was that at the same time, riders must refrain from bringing food and drink into the theater. When it isn't in use, the first pre-show area doubles as a meet-and-greet area for other costumed characters, including Stitch.

Leaks from October 2018 revealing a dismantled Stitch animatronic lacking eyes and an ear started rumors that the attraction may have been permanently closed, despite being listed on Walt Disney World's website as "temporarily closed." It is now claimed that an attraction based on "Wreck-It Ralph" may fill in the vacant lot.
