Tara Browne Crash Site

Kensington, United Kingdom (GB)
This junction is the location of the 1966 car crash that killed Tara Browne, the Irish socialite and heir to the Guinness fortune. He was driving with his girlfriend, model Suki Potier, in his Lotus Elan at high speed when it collided with a parked lorry. He died the following day. Potier survived with minor injuries. She went on to date The Rolling Stones guitarist Brian Jones, only to die in a car crash in Portugal in 1981.

Browne celebrated his 21st birthday with a lavish and legendary party at Luggala Lodge, the family estate in the Wicklow Mountains. Guests included John Paul Getty, Mick Jagger, Brian Jones and Anita Pallenberg. The Lovin' Spoonful, Tara's favourite band, were the musical guests. The death of Browne inspired The Beatles' song A Day in the Life.
