On Tuesday 26th December 2023 the British newspaper, The Guardian, reported on an article published by a team from McGill University in Canada.

The McGill team, based on their analysis of satellite images of the Tern Lake thermal area in the Yellowstone caldera between 1984 and 2022, had found that increased volcanic activity was indicated by greener trees and plants.

The trees and plants became greener due to increased Carbon Dioxide and water vapour as volcanic activity built.

At the peak of volcanic activity, the vegetation became browner as the levels of Sulphur dioxide increased and the temperature rose.
