A wooden sculpture of a Tightrope Walker by Anthony Hammond at Rudyard Lake near Leek in Staffordshire.

The sculpture is a tribute to Carlos Trower, ‘The African Blondin’ who was engaged by the North Staffordshire Railway in September 1864 to walk across Rudyard Lake on a rope suspended over the water.

The Railway Company ran special trains from towns in the Potteries area and the event proved a great commercial success, so much so that in 1878 Trower return to repeat his feat on three separate days.
