A such eyrie, Tournoël for 1000 years has supervised the valleys and the volcanos of Auvergne. Built to resist all the seats, it was tackled five times, taken twice by the trick, once by the force and resisted the two other times. After each seat, defenses were improved, the modified accesses, of the built towers, the traps developped at the point. With the Renaissance, the castle was embellished beautiful sculptures cut in the stone of Volvic. It was inhabited by Alphonse of Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis and the marshal of Saint Andre. Classified Historic building in 1889, the castle is in the course of restoration.
