The Treaty Oak is a Southern Live Oak estimated to be around 250 years old. It is located in Jessie Ball DuPont Park in the Southbank area of Jacksonville. The tree was originally known as the Giant Oak but after the tree was threatened with destruction by developers in the 1930's, philanthropist Mrs. Jessie duPont and journalist Pat Moran began efforts to save the tree. Moran claimed a treaty had been signed under the tree by indigenous Floridians and European settlers. Hence the name Treaty Oak.

Around 1934, duPont and the Alfred I. duPont Foundation purchased the land containing the tree and donated it to the city of Jacksonville. The park has since been enhanced and the tree preserved for future generations.
