The 12 acre island has been owned by the family of the former Keeper of the Royal Privy Purse of the three Kings of Greece since 1958.

In 1967, The Beatles visited the island on the request of John Lennon who had the idea for the band to buy an island on which they would all live. Despite their offer to the owners, they were were not interested in a sale.

There were later rumors of the band buying a Greek island called Leslo, however, that is a wholly unsubstantiated rumor as the island of Leslo does not exist.
