USS LST-642

Demarcation Bay, Alaska (AK), US
USS LST-642 is a 300-foot World War II landing ship that lies grounded as a rusting hulk in the southeastern portion of Demarcation Bay.

The ship grounded on the beach at Barter Island 70 miles to the west in 1947 and was abandoned by the Navy in February 1948. The ship remained there for several years, until it was reportedly sold to a Canadian company in the late 1950's, who were towing it toward Canada when it broke loose in a storm. The vessel's whereabouts were unknown until it was eventually discovered in the early 1960s grounded at this site in Demarcation Bay.
