Russian politician Vladimir Putin’s house is a 4.5-acre luxury property in the exclusive private estate of La Zagaleta, near Marbella, Spain. He purchased a 10-bedroom mansion on the property in 2012 for £15 million, demolished it, and built a new mansion on the site. The plot is one of the largest properties in La Zagaleta, which also claims famous residents such as Rod Stewart, David Beckham, and Shakira.

Vladimir Putin’s net worth is $70 billion, based on his reported ownership of various energy commodity companies, including natural gas company Gazprom, oil company Surgutneftagas, and Swiss oil-trader Gunvor. His official salary as President of Russia is $187,000 annually and in 2012, he claimed his net worth to be less than $500,000.

Vladimir Putin was born in 1952 in Leningrad, Soviet Union and studied law at Leningrad State University (now Saint Petersburg University). He joined the KGB in 1975 and served under cover in Dresden, East Germany from 1985-1990. After the fall of the Soviet Union, he began working for his former professor Anatoly Sobchak, who had become the mayor of St. Petersburg. In 1997, he was appointed to then-President Boris Yelstin’s staff, and was made director of the FSB, the successor organization of the KBG, in 1997. Amid political turmoil in Russia, Putin became prime minister in 1999, and on December 31st that year, was named President upon Yeltsin’s resignation. Putin served as President from 2000-2008, then as prime minister from 2008-2012, and President again beginning in 2012. He has stated that he will not run again in 2024.

Vladimir Putin is known as a strongman dictator due to the widespread belief that he has remained in power in corrupt and undemocratic ways. He has a history of adversarial human rights and foreign policies that go against the ideology of much of the Western world. In 2022, he commanded his military to invade Ukraine in an unprovoked military assault.
