On Thursday 9th February 2023, Bruce K9OZ, a radio amateur from Little Rock, AR reached the summit of Whiting Mountain and became the first to activate this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.

He made 38 contacts in total working on the 40, 20, 17 and 10 metre HF amateur radio bands.

The summit of Whiting Mountain is 736 metres (2415 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
