Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre

Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre

Whitehorse, Canada (CA)
A museum in a very modern building that deals with the past. Beringia was an area encompassing parts of Yukon, Alaska and Siberia that was not covered by ice during the Ice Ages and provided the land bridge between the two continents. Many types of animals flourished during that time and left a fabulous fossil record.

During the Klondike gold rush word of the abundance of fossils was sent to the outside world by the gold seekers. Over one hundred years later the Yukon Beringia Interpretive Centre tells the story of those fossils to visitors. From the movie played in the theater through the mounted fossils on display, as well as the many interpretive stations, the story of the plants, animals and the early humans who called Beringia home, the visitor comes to understand that the Ice age was more than just a huge mass of ice that changed the landscape.
