You can also have an excellent view with Google Maps by changing the URL.

The current URL is:
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&t=k&q=South+Africa&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=-28.321859,32.408402&spn=0.001754,0.002494&om=1

In this long URL you'll find "z=19". Well simply change this number in 20 or 21 and you'll have a much better view.
